§ 5.12. Special Elections; Vacancies.

In the case of a vacancy in the office of a council member, from failure to elect, death, removal, or any cause whatsoever, such vacancy shall be filled by appointment by the mayor and the remaining council members. In the case of a vacancy in the office of mayor, from failure to elect, death, removal, or any cause whatsoever, such vacancy shall be filled by appointment by the council. Such appointments shall be for the remainder of the unexpired term of office and no election shall be held to fill such vacancy.
